Through the presentation of a monthly newsletter provided by our agency, the Council is trying to keep seniors informed and abreast of the latest news in benefits, services, and happenings.


Transportation

The Pointe Coupee Council on Aging provides transportation daily to doctors, hospitals, meal sites, shopping, banking, social service agencies, etc. The Council provides transportation to anyone 60 years of age or older who are disabled and handicapped.

The Pointe Coupee Public Transit provides demand response service to the general public Monday thru Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM within parish and Medical appointments outside the parish. A minimum of 24 hours is required to make reservations. All desired stops must be stated when booking transportation. Escort service is not provided. Anyone unable to function on their own must supply their own aide. Escort is allowed to ride free. Passengers must state if they are in need of a wheelchair lift van. The transit system is demand response, first come first served upon space available. No reservations will be accepted after 2:00 PM. Call the office for schedule of fares.

Pointe Coupee Council on Aging also provides transportation for Medicaid recipients.


Information and Assistance

A service for older individuals that provides the individuals with current information on opportunities and services available in the community. This service also assesses the problems and capacities of the individuals, links the individuals to opportunities that are available, ensures that the individuals received the services needed by the individuals, and establishes adequate follow-up procedures.


Material Aid (Including Food for Seniors)

Issuing assistive devices and other goods, such as fans, personal hygiene items, etc. Assistance in the form of registering Parish residents, 60 and older for the Food for Seniors program. Also in the distribution of the food boxes to clients, throughout Pointe Coupee Parish.


Congregate Meals

Providing meals to eligible clients 60 yrs. or older or other eligible participant at a nutrition site. A meal which complies with the Dietary Guidelines of 33.3% of current daily recommended dietary allowance. Pointe Coupee has 4 meal sites: New Roads, Morganza, Innis, and Lakeland. The elderly come together for a noon meal, recreation, health screening, and nutrition education. To order a meal, contact a day in advance before noon. A donation is requested per meal.


Home Delivered Meals

Providing frozen meals to an eligible client, or other eligible participant at the client’s place of residence, a meal which complies with the dietary guidelines of 33.3% of current daily recommended dietary allowances. This service requires a needs assessment to determine the level of need. A donation is requested per meal.


Homemaker

Providing assistance with light housework for those having difficulty with activities of daily living. This service requires a needs assessment to determine the level of difficulty. A donation is requested per visit.


National Family Caregiver Program

This program facilitates and coordinates relief to family members who are the primary caregiver for an elderly. The program provides personal care and respite services to reduce the stress of a caregiver. The Council conducts the intake and screening process for potential consumers of this program.


Recreation

Providing individual and group activities that promote social interaction and well-being, at each site. The Council also hosts 4 parish wide special events throughout the year at the Scott Civic Center. These events enhance the quality of life for the elderly by promoting wellness.


Personal Care

Providing personal assistance, stand-by assistance, and supervision for persons having difficulties with maintaining personal hygiene. This service requires a needs assessment to determine the level of difficulty. A donation is requested per visit.


Wellness

Providing activities designed to provide services which will support and/or improve the older persons mental and/or physical well-being, exercise/physical fitness, health screening.


Legal Aid

The Pointe Coupee Council on Aging contracts with the Capital Area Legal Services Corporation (Adult Protective Services) for the Elderly & Disabled to provide legal assistance.


Telephoning

Pre-arranged schedule of phoning the homebound elderly to provide comfort, company, and help.


Outreach

Interventions initiated by an agency or organization for the purpose of identifying potential clients and encouraging their use of existing services and benefits.


Utility Assistance

Emergency assistance program, designed to help elderly with their utility expenses. Program is administered by appointment, and elderly must have proof of income with all bills for the month requesting assistance. Bills must be in applicants’ name.


Nutrition Education

A program to promote better health by providing accurate and culturally-sensitive nutrition, physical fitness, or health (as it applies to nutrition) information and instruction to participants and caregivers in a group or individual setting, overseen by a dietitian or individual or individual of comparable expertise.


Medication Assistance

Connecting qualified low income people with free or discounted prescription drugs directly from manufactures.

Do you need help getting your medications? We can help qualified low-income parish residents receive free or discounted prescription drugs.

Do you have Medicare part D? We can help get your medications if you are in the gap. Out of pocket expenses must be met.
